Accelerated Resolution Therapy Allows You To “Keep The Knowledge & Lose The Pain”
Have you ever struggled with recurring patterns that create dysregulation, overwhelm, and internal distress?
Do you find yourself feeling stuck in your life feeling shame, guilt, or fear?
Do you struggle with post-traumatic stress and/or substance use?
Are memories, worries, or past experiences getting in the way of you living the life you desire?
Is your profession as a First Responder or Outdoor Industry Leader causing you to experience compassion fatigue and burnout?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy, (ART) is an evidenced-based treatment for PTSD and other trauma-related issues. This method is proven to be effective in decreasing and at times eliminating distressing physical, emotional, and mental sensations and feelings. The cornerstone of Accelerated Resolution Therapy is centered around rewriting and re-scripting beliefs.
The Magic Of ART: How Does It Work?
Your ART therapist will invite you to connect with your body and lead you through a relaxing eye movement exercise (bilateral eye movement) to prime you for addressing key memories related to your targeted area. By using the power of neuroplasticity–our brain’s innate rewiring capabilities–Accelerated Resolution Therapy can change the negative sensations and internal images that cause distress. You will still keep the memory of what happened, but how you feel and what you associate with the experience will be different utilizing what is called “Voluntary Image Replacement.”
A therapist using Accelerated Resolution Therapy works to support and guide you into creating “The Director’s Cut” of your preferred experience, deepening new visualizations and sensations. Observing the memories like a movie helps create distance between the past and present. By creating distance between yourself, your memories, and your beliefs, you can develop a new narrative that can help provide relief, compassion, self -love, and a deep sense of resolve.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy Can Be Used To Address A Wide Range Of Issues, Including:
Depression
Anxiety
Traumatic incidents
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Relational trauma
Physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, and sexual abuse
Phobias
Addiction challenges
Career distress
Grief and loss
ART In Six Steps
Accelerated Resolution Therapy facilitates positive feelings, enhanced physical comfort, and decreased emotional distress by:
Using bilateral stimulation (eye movements) to recreate the body’s REM cycle and promote relaxation
Identifying target memory to reprocess, which may include an adverse experience, anxiety, or limiting self-belief
Assigning calming associations to the memory using your therapist’s guidance, preparing the brain to rewrite the narrative
Replacing memories with new images that are less harmful or distressing
“Rescripting” the narrative of the memory to facilitate more positive associations and self-beliefs
Developing metaphors to ultimately reshape your identity and relationship with the distressing memory (i.e., a bridge has been built between your old identity and your new one)
Unique Aspects Of ART
Many counseling approaches require clients to process their trauma verbally. However, Accelerated Resolution Therapy does not involve discussing your experiences at length, making this method gentler and potentially less traumatizing than other approaches.
Because ART targets unresolved trauma at the neurobiological level, it works relatively quickly. Some clients can experience relief on a single presenting issue in as few as one to three sessions.
ART Can Be A Beneficial Tool For Living Wholeheartedly
Accelerated Resolution Therapy creates the opportunity to process difficult experiences or traumas that are blocking your ability to live life as you would like. Using ART, our clients have been able to:
Identify limiting self-beliefs and narratives
Reduce fear and anxiety
Create solutions
Rescript their story
Reinforce healthier and more positive associations, even with distressing memories
Increase resilience
Experience a sense of peace and completeness
